Forests are one of my favourite landscapes to paint since they are so versatile and you can really play around with it to create a different mood. For me, they've always been a symbol of mystery/wonder so I wanted to capture that in this painting. I haven't really done an autumn-themed painting or used this kind of colour palette before, so it's interesting how it turned out~ Hope you enjoy!

Thank you! I draw them in Photoshop with a tablet :) It's hard to explain my process in words but I do have a walkthrough in my scraps of another piece. I think I'll do a more in-depth tutorial in the future ^^ Good luck with your major! :D

Commenting on behalf of projectcomment.deviantart.com/

I really love how the image is fairly dark around the edges and becomes lighter towards the centre, without loosing contrast between the shapes of the trees and the leaves. I also really like how the darkest parts are mostly shades of blue and purple rather than black, they bring out the brightness of the reds and really add depth.  I have to say that I like the way you silhouetted the cloaked figure and the horse- again, it adds to a sense of depth, and the use of purple with touches of pink add some feeling. A subtle but moody piece, I think, and very well done.

Your style is lovely and unmistakable,  keep growing and streaching your comfort zone.  the only thing with this pallet is it tends to be a tad somber, which could be improved by lightening up the foreground.

Thank you! I was going for the mysterious atmosphere with this one which is why it appears so dark, but yes it could be lightened up definitely.

I think that the trees in the back would be more expressive, according to the title, if they were deformed as the traveler was passing by with light-speed. However, that's an interesting view! :)

Amazing art piece. But I suppose if you change the direction to which the horse is facing, it would create a much more mysterious vibe. Though the feelings I got from this piece is great already, as they looks so close and connected within the enchanted forrest.

Love the branches high above btw

At first, I didn't want to review this one, because it looked like a photo-manipulation at first glance.

This already says a lot. It looks very photo-realist to a certain extend, to which I applaud you, but it also has some weird artificial flair. It might only be because the same kind of foggy blur is used to hide mistakes in photo-manips. In this case, I take it back - it can obviously not be compared in that way.
However, it does look a bit blurry. And unfinished. The tree trunks seem more distinctive than everything else, and that makes the leaves in particular look out of this world (together with the much stronger colours).

In any way, the first impression is quite strong and I have no problem to discard the (rather small) faults to enjoy it. And interpreting the title could actually make them look fully intentional.

Wow, thank you for the long and detailed comment! I don't know if looking like a photo-manip is a good thing, but I was going to the realistic look with this one. The blurry trees in the back are intentional, but I do agree with it looking unfinished, I kinda gave up in the end since I was tired and didn't know what else to fix. x_X
